-Our goal is to still work as hard as we possibly can and be the best we can be this year.
-All of you have a lot of work to do so please ask for help and push yourself to rise to the occasion.
Click HERE for new REMIND group. (everyone must join, we'll use for rest of year)
NEW MUSIC TO LEARN! (these are for everyone, grab pad and sticks and start learning)
New: Sacky Hack - stick control exercise from last year.
(last two bars are slightly different)
16th Note Grid - click here
- Start very slow, only start with the accented 16th note section. Work on getting two heights, accent to taps.
- Try to add the diddle and other ornamentations (slowly to get it right first.)
2020 Spree - click here
- Learn this slowly and be careful of the stickings and flams. Getting quality flams and keeping tempo solid.
- If you are having trouble on some of the stickings break it down to just 2 or 3 notes and play those over and over.
- Take a bar at a time and give your self small goals piecing it together over time.
- TEMPO start around 100bpm working up to around 140ish
SO WHAT CAN YOU BE DOING to make sure you are prepared for the audition and can perform to the best of your ability?
- Practice the warm ups, learn parts from other sections of last year's show.
- Play things slower than you think they should sound to WORK ON TECHNIQUE AND QUALITY
- Play in front of a mirror or phone... watch your hands, FIX what doesn't look natural.
- Use some of the simpler warm ups to CHOP OUT! This truly means playing for durations and speeds that max out your muscles in the hands and arms. This is how you build chops PERIOD
- All these apply to mallet players AS WELL! + playing different stickings with 4 mallets/ working on individual strokes.
