The indoor concession stand at EHS is our primary fundraising tool?!
By staffing and managing the concession stand for almost every indoor sporting events, we have been able to save money and purchase new equipment, new and used instruments, marching band uniforms, and a trailer in the past few years. In addition to purchases, we've also been able to provide for our students in other ways:
- When our students perform in the middle school and high school pep bands, many of them will stay after school. That makes for a VERY long day! We decided about several years ago to feed the high school pep band after half time. There are normally 40-45 students in the group. Think about the amount of money we spend to feed them.
- We are able to keep our marching band fees lower than most of the other marching bands in our area due to the profits we receive from our concession stand.
Managing indoor concessions is a daunting task! In the fall we have Ladies Volleyball with approximately 18 shifts with 3 people per shift, and the Cougar Cave at Kumler Field with approximately 10 shifts with 3 people per shift. (Though the Cougar Cave isn't concessions, we still need to staff this "booth" so we can sell spiritwear and trinkets which also raise money for all our bands). Our winter sports season (Mens & Ladies Basketball plus Wrestling) runs from the end of November through early to mid February (approximately 47 shifts with 4-5 people PER SHIFT). In the spring, we have our Mens Volleyball season which will be approximately 16 shifts with 2 people per shift. We also normally have a 2-day Baton Twirling event in June that has approximately 10 shifts with 4 people per shift. In 2019 we also had an additional 2-day National Baton Twirling event that hosted over 300 athletes (and their families)! That ended up being about 12 shifts with 5-6 people per shift. Sometimes we will have small impromptu events that pop up as well. Just looking at the normal seasons and the two Twirling Competitions, we had to staff AT LEAST 463 shifts!! Many of those shifts were left unfilled and had to be covered by the Board Officers, or by parents that worked well over their 2 shifts. These people do it because they love the band and guard programs and they want to see them succeed and be able to handle the continued growth we have been seeing over the last few years!
-In addition to worrying about staffing, don't forget we have to purchase supplies, track inventory, track volunteer hours, and make sure everyone is up to date on training.
Please feel free to contact an Executive Board Member if you have questions, need training, want to help with feeding our students, or need more information about all things band/guard. We would love to see new faces in the concession stand to go with our core group of amazing workers, so please check out our SignUp Genius links on the Band Calendar and sign up for a few shifts! - Thank you so much -
